Summer scheduling

I am working on the summer schedule for our family. Emma will go to camp Pa-Wa-Pi for a few weeks this summer and Mystic Lake overnight camp (also a YMCA camp) for 1 week. Here she is--second from the front of the canoe--on the front of the camp brochure.

Art Exhibit

Emma has been taking Saturday morning art classes at the Kresge Art Museum on the MSU campus. This morning the program has an exhibit of all of the classes work. Emma had three pieces in the exhibit: a pinata, a venetian mask, and a paint brush pot.

Reading, Singing and Dancing

Emma's fifth grade class is going to do a flash dance in celebration of the the end of literacy night. It is to the tune of the Black Eyed Peas song "Tonight's Gonna Be a Good Night." Here she is practicing (with some help from Joe).

Jazz hands!

This photo is from the 2011 flyer for the MSU Community Music School musical theatre camp. The photo was taken in 2010 during the show at the end of the week. Emma is in the middle with the headband. I think they have just finished the number from Hairspray, "You Can't Stop the Beat."

Happy World Down Syndrome Day

March 21st (3.21) is world down syndrome day because of 3 chromosomes on the 21st pair. It is also Tutu's birthday! In honor of world down syndrome day here is a photo that Stacy took of me and Joe dancing last week.

literacy day

Today was a community-wide literacy day at Red Cedar School. Red Cedar does this every year as part of literacy month. This year the school hosted a singer and a story teller. The slide show are photos of Joe saying (and signing) the peace pledge that Red Cedar school students say every morning. They also show Emma on stage with the story teller playing the part of a cow in a story.

deer walking by our house

On Friday 3 deer walked through our front yard and then right down the middle of the street. I couldn't grab the camera fast enough to take a photo of them in the yard. Here they are walking away.

Butterflies!

On Friday we went to the Meijer Sculpture Garden in Grand Rapids to see the butterfly exhibit. The butterflies were out and the garden was crowded with people looking for signs of spring. It was a sunny day but it is still cold in mid-Michigan.

We support our teachers!

This is a fantastic poem by Taylor Mali about great teachers and our culture that doesn't value them. Emma and Joe have great teachers this year. It's "definitely beautiful!"
