Letter to the Editor

Emma put a voter survey together last week to find out how many kids in her third grade class are voting for Obama and how many are voting for McCain. Chris helped her draw the chart that she brought to school and then asked her classmates to anonymously check either the McCain or Obama box. At the end of the day she tallied up the results and then drew a bar graph that showed Obama with 22 votes, McCain with 3 votes. We told her that we thought that the Lansing State Journal might publish her results if she wrote a letter explaining her data pool, collection, and methods. Here is the letter (with the bar graph) that she wrote and will mail tomorrow. We're keeping our fingers crossed that this timely survey will be news worthy!

I have it on good authority that certain Halloween "candy" promises may have influenced the survey results.

Is this a reflection of the area you live in, or the strong-arm tactics of Emma's surveying methods?

I love this! Yea for Emma. I know your kids don't watch TV, but Zachary voted online for Nickelodeon too. they had their own vote for kids to cast their vote. Zachary voted there too. It's cool to get them involved. I plan to take Zach with me to vote, like always. I hope the lines not too long!
